Former President John Mahama has opined that the much awaited 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections will be a boot for boot affairs.
Mr. Mahama made the above utterance when addressing the NDC party delegates and sympathizers at Kamgbunli in Ellembelle Constituency on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, as part of his Westerm Regional campaign tour ahead of the NDC presidential primaries to elect its Flagbearer to lead the party come 2020 slated for January 26, 2019.
Over two thousand party members within the Constituency came to the venue including all the Western Regional Executives led by its Chairman, Nana Kwame Toku to support the Former President.
The NDC party has already expressed mistrust in the work of the current Electoral Commission of Ghana. Some of the party members have called for the removal of the EC boss, Jean Mensa after the new region referenda for electoral malpractices.
Addressing the party delegates and members, Mr. John Mahama charged them to be vigilant and ensure that the 2020 general elections would be free and fair.
He said every NDC member must protect the ballot box and make sure single vote would be counted and declared.
"I will urge all the nine branch executives at every polling station to be polling agents and protect the ballot boxes because we don't want to repeat what happened in 2016", he said.
He added that the 2020 elections will not be easy but said with vigilant, the NDC would be victorious.
Mr. Mahama stated that the NDC party will do a boot for boot affairs campaign in 2020.
"2020 general elections will be boot for boot affairs and we will face them boot for boot and there's no way we will sleep at the various polling stations, we have to be vigilant and also work hard to ensure victory is ours", he emphasized.
He, therefore stated that the NDC will win the 2020 general elections but urged the teeming supporters not to be complacent, he pleaded with them to work hard.
On his part, the Constituency Chairman of the party, Alex Mahama assured Mr John Mahama of 100 per cent votes in the upcoming presidential primaries.
He, therefore urged Mr. Mahama not be worried of campaigning in the Constituency because the delegates have decided already.
The Chairman said is only Mr John Mahama who can wrestle political power from the NPP government and said Ghanaians are suffering under the Akufo-Addo led administration.
He revealed that that Ghanaians made a total mistake by voting for the NPP in 2016 hence brought hardships on Ghanaians.
He said "Ghana is more hotter than hell under Akufo-Addo government, as we speak we cannot buy fuel, petroleum prices have been increased drastically and also prices of food stuff have been increased, we are dying, we are in Satan's fire and this fire is more than Satan one but I know in 2020, Ghanaians will voted against the NPP government and bring Mr. John Mahama to save this country from this economic hardship".
The Constituency Chairman, therefore, presented 1,000 Ghana Cedis to Mr. John Mahama to support his campaign.
Mr. Mahama is among other high profile aspirants within the NDC who have submitted nomination forms to contest including the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester Mensah, and Nadowli Kaleo MP, Alban Bagbin.
